Parsley

There are two main botanical species for parsley essential oils:

  1. Petroselinum crispum - This is the most commonly used species for producing parsley essential oil. It is also known as common parsley, curly parsley, or garden parsley. This species is native to the Mediterranean region but is now grown worldwide in temperate climates.

  2. Petroselinum sativum - This is also known as Hamburg parsley or root parsley. Unlike common parsley, this species is primarily grown for its root, which is used as a vegetable. However, the leaves and seeds of this species can also be used to produce essential oil. It is believed to have originated in the eastern Mediterranean and western Asia.

The growing regions for these species can vary depending on the specific cultivars and growing conditions. However, generally speaking, common parsley is grown in temperate regions around the world, including Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Hamburg parsley, on the other hand, is primarily grown in Europe and parts of Asia. Some of the major producers of parsley essential oil include France, Hungary, Italy, and the United States.
