Cananga

Cananga essential oil is extracted from the flowers of the Cananga tree, which belongs to the Annonaceae family. There are several botanical species of Cananga trees, but the most commonly used for essential oil production are Cananga odorata var. genuina and Cananga odorata var. macrophylla.

Cananga odorata var. genuina, also known as Ylang-Ylang Complete, is mainly grown in the Comoros Islands, Madagascar, and Reunion Island. It is known for its sweet, floral, and slightly spicy aroma.

Cananga odorata var. macrophylla, also known as Cananga oil or Cananga Java, is mainly grown in Indonesia, particularly in Java and Sumatra. It has a more intense floral aroma than Ylang-Ylang Complete and is often used in perfumes and cosmetics.

There are other species of Cananga trees, such as Cananga fruticosa, Cananga luzonica, and Cananga odoratissima, but they are not commonly used for essential oil production.

It is important to note that the quality and composition of Cananga essential oil can vary depending on the growing region, soil, climate, and harvesting and distillation methods.
