Birch

There are two main species of Birch trees from which essential oils are extracted: Betula pendula (also known as silver birch or European white birch) and Betula lenta (also known as black birch or sweet birch).

Betula pendula is primarily grown in Europe, while Betula lenta is native to North America. Both species can be found in other parts of the world as well.

Other birch species, such as Betula alleghaniensis and Betula pubescens, can also be used to produce birch essential oil, but they are less commonly used.

It's important to note that birch essential oil should be used with caution as it contains methyl salicylate, a compound that can be toxic in large quantities. It should not be used by pregnant women or individuals with certain medical conditions. Always consult with a healthcare professional before using essential oils.
