Chamomile

Chamomile is a popular botanical species used in aromatherapy, skincare, and herbal remedies. There are two main types of chamomile used in essential oil production: Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) and German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla). Both species are widely cultivated for their fragrant flowers, which are steam-distilled to produce essential oil or solvent-extracted to produce absolutes.

Chamomile absolutes are highly concentrated, aromatic liquids that contain the fragrant constituents of the chamomile flowers. The two main chamomile absolutes are Roman chamomile absolute and German chamomile absolute.

Roman chamomile absolute (Chamaemelum nobile) is a yellow to amber-colored liquid with a sweet, herbaceous, and fruity aroma. It is produced from the flowers of the Roman chamomile plant, which is native to Western Europe and Northern Africa. The primary growing regions for Roman chamomile include the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, and Morocco.

German chamomile absolute (Matricaria chamomilla) is a blue to green-colored liquid with a sweet, herbaceous, and slightly fruity aroma. It is produced from the flowers of the German chamomile plant, which is native to Europe and Western Asia. The primary growing regions for German chamomile include Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Egypt.

It's important to note that chamomile absolutes are typically used in high-end perfumery and skincare formulations due to their high cost and potency. They should always be used with caution and properly diluted before use.
