It also has a strong partnership with key Frankincense cooperatives in the Puntland State of Somalia and other parts of Somaliland. Although the organization is relatively young, it has maintained a steady growth and over the years, it has consistently grown its local and international frankincense trade.  

The Birth of HornIncense

As mentioned, HornIncense is made up of several small frankincense traders in Somalia who sourced for their markets separately before coming into a partnership. With time, these small organizations realized the need to come together and join forces to form a unified fair trade cooperative association. 

The goal of the association was to support the ethical sourcing of resins and promote the growth of all its members. The coming together of these companies gave birth to the first major network of frankincense cooperatives in Somalia. 

Today, the cooperative has grown significantly with several key indigenous harvesters and local frankincense traders from most of frankincense growing zones becoming members of the association. 

The Vision of HornIncense

The vision and purpose of the HornIncense network of cooperative associations are to help member local harvesters and traders to maintain ethical sourcing of myrrh, frankincense, and other aromatic gums while improving the livelihoods of members, and local economic sustainability and growth.
