Grounded Natural Ingredients began in 2014. Here is our story. Thekla Teunis was passing through China and Southeast Asia and was pleased by the erratic state of pastoral lands among earth’s most productive regions. Some of the lands were vibrant, flourishing, and prevailing in synchronization with nature whereas others were drained and over-exploited, largely leaching from the environment.

Thekla realized, weeks after seeing the contrast in the ecosystem, that land deterioration was a choice and not a certainty. It was then, in 2014, that she collaborated with Commonland, an organization devoted to restoring sullied lands on large scale. In the subsequent year, she met Gijs Boers in Zambia, an avid supporter of regenerative agriculture. He had spent the previous three years traveling the world, working together with farmers, all the while studying the best farming practices. Both Thekla and Gijs shared a vision for viable agriculture and akin adventurous spirit and so they collaborated to help farmers reinstate their soils. Doing this would promote balanced markets and stronger food systems. That is how Grounded came to be.

What we do

Here at Grounded, we collaborate with farmers to enable the production of reformative agricultural yields. We then build companies that process the yields and deliver high-grade regenerative ingredients to the large markets. Ensuring everyone along the value chain is working together aids in the equal distribution of the burden of risks. As a result, we provide our customers with a variety of products such as tea, spices, herbs, and oils that are a culmination of regenerative agriculture.

How we work

Grounded works diligently with agriculturalists, shareholders, and local organizations to create a long-standing partnership. Besides advising the farmers, our role is to carefully choose the sites in which we’ll be dynamically involved in the fullness of time. We focus on producing valuable, low-volume non-perishable yields that are later processed into food ingredients, herbal teas, spices, and oils. By supporting farmers to switch to a ‘beyond-organic agricultural method, the soil quality steadily improves. As a result, the soils become healthier and produce higher-quality crops.
