General Information

Vines, perennial, semiwoody. Leaves alternate. Inflorescences terminal or axillary panicles, mostly 50-100-flowered. Flowers epigynous (hypogynous in all other genera); sepals 4(-5); stamens 15-20; carpels (3-)4, connate at least halfway proximally; ovary inferior (3-)4-locular, eventually 1-locular by abortion of septa; style 1; stigmas (3-)4. Fruits cypselas, turbinate, crowned by winglike sepals. Seed 1, by abortion of other (2-)3 ovules.

    Trepadoras herbáceas, perennes; plantas hermafroditas. Hojas ovadas a orbiculares, 4–5 cm de largo y 3–6 cm de ancho, redondeadas en el ápice, lobadas en la base. Panículas 10–15 cm de largo, flores blancas; sépalos 4, 6–8 mm de largo, acrescentes; pétalos ausentes; estambres 14 (–20); ovario subínfero, 4-locular. Fruto un aquenio por aborto.

    Rara, bosques secos, la zona pacífica; 50–550 m; fl jul–oct; Robleto 1436, Stevens 9242; Estados Unidos (Florida y Texas) a Nicaragua. Género monotípico. "Vómito".
