General Information

Plants 1-8 cm high, usually in dense, yellow-green to reddish tomentose mats, simple to narrowly branched, ± erect or decumbent. Leaves erect-appressed and ± conduplicate when dry, spreading when moist, 2.5-4.5 mm long, generally ovate-lanceolate; margins narrowly revolute to below the middle, sometimes nearly to the base, doubly serrate in the upper 1/2 or somewhat more; costa excurrent, sometimes long-excurrent; cells uniform throughout, subquadrate to oblong, up to 25 µm long, 5-7 µm wide, most cells centrally papillose on 1 or both surfaces. Setae 2-8 mm long, curved to arcuate; capsules 3-4 mm in diameter; operculum planoconvex; peristome none.

    Distribution

    On dry to moist rocks or soil at middle to upper elevations; Chihuahua, Distrito Federal, Durango, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Mexico, Michoacan, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, Tlaxcala.—Mexico to Peru.
